For those who don't know me, my name is An-Sofie. I am 20 years old and was born and raised in Ostend, a Belgian city next to the sea. I was always very interested in animals in my youth and studied animal care in high school. Since there are not a lot of college courses concerning exotic animals and wildlife, I have found that volunteering can be a great way to learn and gain experience. I had already volunteered in an animal park and wildlife rescue centre in Belgium before I applied to do an EVS at Drasi Agriazoi in Greece. Unfortunately not everything went as planned as my application was not approved but in stand-by at first. I had already quitted my job and was standing empty handed not sure what to do next.
Eventually, tired of waiting, I set out on the 5th of February to Drasi on my own without organisation for three months. Together with Nele, who also applied for the same EVS. I can say that I've never regretted that decision. The place around Drasi is great, even if it's difficult to get to Thessaloniki, the nature around is very beautiful and there are a lot of wild birds to see. I have found all the volunteers I worked with lovely people, Greek and international volunteers alike and that everyone of Drasi is like a family for which I am so grateful to have the opportunity to become part of.
At last, I got great news that my EVS was approved and I could continue my adventure at the 9th of may for a whole year.
