Hello! My name is Esther, I am 19 years of age and have lived most of my life in North Wales, UK. I am a student but decided to take a year out before I begin my studies in Medicine (human) in order to do some volunteer work in Wildlife Conservation, similar to the work I had done in the UK with the National Trust, but in a new environment so that I could travel and explore a new culture. However working with animals in such a proximity is something I have never done before, but I love to learn.

Although I was very excited about the prospect of working here, I had no idea what to expect, so this evening view over the Axios River, on the first day I arrived, was very welcome.

I still have a lot to learn, and of course will do so in the coming months but already during the time I have spent here I feel that I have learnt so much in terms of the handling and medical care of the animals here. These are some of my current highlights:

Releasing the animals we have cared for such as this Greenfinch:

Looking after the Little Owl from first learning to give it water to now trying to heal a swollen external gland :

My EVS project will last from 10/3 to 29/8, all the volunteers I have met here in Greece have been very warm and welcoming, I am very excited for the days to come.
