One performance that combines piano music and painting with charcoal where the picture changes, moves and comes to life.

Saturday 9 April 2011

Artists: Alaveras Christos(painter), Papa Olimbia(musician)

Saturday night and the combination of music and painting at Mikropolis has surprised all the attendants, reminding everyone that music isn’t only for fun and painting only for decoration of walls. Congratulations to both artists that despite lack of time have collaborated wonderfully to convey to the people attending, “the sounds of migration” that, even though related to birds on that particular occasion, bring in mind reasonable connotations related to human and every living being on the planet.Initially the image depicts migratory birds on a cloudless sky. The image is then blackened by Sounds of devastation (war; atmospheric pollution ;) that try to get across the message of threat for the environment. The image changes again and we see wounded birds coming out of the devastation, maintaining  though a hope as they ultimately turn into an angel. In the end, the migratory birds reappear this time on a grey dull sky. However, they leave us on a positive note: the circle of life will always prevail against all odds and the journey will never end.

Christos Alaveras has used charcoal with great skilfulness exhausting all the paper at his disposal. He managed to indicate forms keeping at the same time the balance between full and empty, black and white, form and line.Olimbia Papa employed her music to impose tension and tranquillity, movement and stillness, unruffled flight or struggle with the weather conditions. Together they’ve succeeded in heightening emotions to a point that neither music nor image alone ever could.

We would really like to thank them for the help they provided to our team, “Action for Wildlife” and for reminding us that Art can and should stimulate our rigid minds that  constantly break down in our intricate everyday life.
