Hi! I’m Garance, and I’m from the North of France. It’s been a month I’m here now, and I’ll stay until March for a civic service. It’s my first time in Greece, and for now I love it (except for the crazy heat). I’m studying animal care and want to work more with wild animals in the future, so when I saw this project, I knew I had to come!
On my first day of work, I worked outside, I was surprised to see that many animals, and some that I haven’t seen before, like a vulture and a flamingo. I fell in love with the turtles of course, they are so cute, and I’m learning a lot about them.
We went on a bird ringing not far from Drasi, it was really interesting to see what the procedure for that is. The place was so beautiful. We could also do some bird watching, I saw a pelican for the first time, and there were so many flamingos! Just before leaving, we heard some jackals, I didn’t even know they’re living in Greece.
There was a fire in a field in front of the center, it was very stressful, but I guess I have to get used to the reality of living in Greece.
So many things happened since I came, I’m never bored! I can’t wait to learn more about the animals we take care of, and enjoy my time here in Drasi!
